Learning Curve. Awesome and terrifying.

I retired after 33 years of teaching high school (history and psychology). My mom and dad were also educators, but dad was an artist, too. Little sketches, pastel landscapes and scenery for a local theater were all on his resumé. I developed a love of doodles, sketching and photography from him. He even built me a darkroom in the basement when I was in high school! I used drawing and art in my teaching and did watercolor story books and gifts for my sons and nieces. I never thought of my self as an "artist", but retirement has given me the freedom and time to push myself in new (and sometimes uncomfortable) directions. My learning curve both in art and business has been a crazy, scary challenge. It's never too late to grow, to try, to fail and start over. Next blog- what I didn't know about business. Hint: everything.

Here are two illustrations from several years ago and a cartoon history of the Industrial Revolution I used in class. I still love them, but I think I've grown, too.
